Internationally acclaimed Canadian sitar player and composer Mohamed Assani just released his captivating album, titled Wayfinder, on April 24th.
Assani weaves a beautiful and tuneful tapestry of sounds found from around the world on the electronic- and acoustic-based LP.
He artistically explores a myriad of deeply cultural music forms, including Indian/Pakistani classical, North African and Middle Eastern music, Western harmonics, jazz, funk, and ambient music.
Assani is also a pioneer in bringing sitar music to the masses and is a respected ambassador for this musical tradition. He blends old-school with the modern style on his engaging music.
He even brings in the natural world into his creative process, crafting the LP during the nocturnal hours in the middle of a forest in the Kootenay Mountains of British Columbia.
Wayfinder was produced with support from Creative BC and Factor Foundation. Assani, in partnership with Indian Summer Festival, just performed a special live stream of his album’s release.
