Multi-instrumentalist Tim Edey has travelled a long way from his childhood home in Kent (where he is patron of the annual Broadstairs Folk Week) via Ireland to his present home in Perth and Kinross, but the rewards have been great – not least the announcement that he has just been declared winner of the BBC Alba/Scotland Musician of the year, sponsored by the University of the Highlands and Islands. The award came as no surprise to the thousands of Tim’s fans around the world who have this year delighted in his weekly “Sleeping Tunes” concerts on line. Watching one of these events is an evening of great intimacy as people across the globe enjoy their shared love of great music, and chat beamed from Tim’s living room. Along with so many others in the arts Tim lost most of his gigs in 2020, and found a very special way to sustain his music.

Tim’s next venture is the release of a charity single of the classic song Fields of Gold on which he is joined by global queen of the fiddle renowned Cape Breton Canadian fiddler Natalie MacMaster, and Scottish strings star Patsy Reid, produced by Perth based Dave MacFarlane. 100%of every download from the single will go to Sands UK Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity which provided Tim and partner Isobel with support during the toughest time in 2015 when they lost their baby boy Griogair aged just 2 months.
The track is to remember Griogair and all babies who sadly are not with their families at Christmas time.

Never one to rest on his laurels, the single will also be included on Tim’s new album “I got rhythm” which will be released on 31stJanuary 2021, and in addition to Patsy Reid on all tracks there are also appearances from Canadian fiddle legend Donnell Leahy, and Michael McGoldrick.
