Brigid Mae Power
Head Above The Water
Fire Records
28 July 2020
From her recently released universally acclaimed new album of the same title, Brigid Mae Power’s astonishing ability to connect the past with the present “raises the everyday to a near-mystical realm” (The Guardian).
The Irish musician’s album is observational of the world around her as well as her own personal journey much like her earlier releases but with richer instrumentation.
New single ‘Head Above The Water’ sees Power scaling things back as she takes to the piano accompanied by Brian MacGloinn on violin.
An exceptional song that deals with the physical pain of addiction, what loved ones endure day to day and how inspiring their outlook on the future can be. Power’s lyrics transcend “everyday grief transfigured by the sublime” (Mojo).
Recorded in analogue studio The Green Door in Glasgow with Alasdair Roberts co-producing alongside Brigid and Peter Broderick. It is a continuing tale of everyday survival; more diverse, different, a bigger canvas, with broader brushstrokes.
Brigid Mae Power’s new album is out now on Fire Records.
