Giant Sand announce ‘Glum’ 25th Anniversary edition with unearthed 1994 KCRW session out Nov 8th
+
‘Recounting The Ballads Of Thin Line Men’ out next month and Nov 2019 tour (full tour dates below)
‘Glum’ is an inadvertent conceptual masterpiece, a ramble through the tumbleweeds of the mind touching on love, loss, belief and fulfilment. It’s an attitudinal thought provoker, a heady, life-affirming adventure (as all Giant Sand albums are).
Originally released 25 years ago, it’s a timeless trek that’s enhanced with a classic KCRW Morning Becomes Eclectic session that spreads the myth of ‘Glum’ yet further (and there’s an additional five tracks that add further polish proceedings). The session is slow paced, drawling, a further exploration of the options, taking in gospel and Vegas jazz, while Howe explains all… comes clean.
“It’s music that lives and breathes” exclaimed Morning becomes Eclectic host Chris Douridas.

“serves as a director’s cut, it’s chief architect approaches them with keener, more mature eyes” Record Collector
It’s 33 and a third years since the seminal Giant Sand and its country cousin The Band Of… Blacky Ranchette entered the studio to lay down their second albums. Yes. Both bands had recorded their second albums each. Two sides of the multi-faceted hyper-productive Howe Gelb.
All these years on, the latest incarnation of Giant Sand: Howe Gelb (guitars, piano) Tommy Larkins (drums) and Thøger Lund (bass), have dusted off the old vinyl and re-imagined those heady days – they’ve polished these buried gems, reignited some truculent tirades and rekindled an ageless angst.
